Maybe somebody knows where is Catalonia, and somebody knows what's hell is Catalonia. But maybe you don't know. For that, I will explain in a summary what is Catalonia.

Well, Catalonia is a country placed in South Europe. Exactly Catalonia is located in North of the Iberian Peninsula and include Balearic Islands. Catalonia is a country with its own language. The language of Catalonia is Catalan (one of the languages offered in that site).

Catalonia is a nation of Europe and it is a Mediterranean country. The country has more than 1000 km of beaches where many tourists come to sunbathe in Mallorca (Mallorca is knowed by English and German as Majorca), Lloret de Mar, Salou or Benidorm.

Catalonia also has montains and ski runs in the Pyrenees. The Pyreness cross Catalonia. And Andorra is located there.


Catalonia is a nation with its own language as Denmark, Finland or Ireland. But Catalonia is a nation without State as Scotland, Wales or Flanders.

Catalonia (also known as Països Catalans -Catalan Countries-) has 10 millions of citizens. The most important cities are Barcelona (the capital), València, Palma de Mallorca, Alacant and Perpinyà.

Actually Catalonia is parted into French State and Spanish State. And one part of Catalonia has its own State, Andorra (member of United Nations). The common thing between this nation is a common History and a common language. Catalonia was founded in the X century, about 988 a.C., similar century with other old European countries.

Thanks to the ownership of Andorra in the United Nations, the Catalan language is present in the UN Assembly.

Catalonia (Països Catalans) is the most important nation without his own State in Europe. 10.000.000 of inhabitants partioned in 70.000 square kilometers. Basically from Salses to Guardamar and from Fraga to Maó.

Catalonia is inside the Euro zone, which means that the official money is the EURO, also common in many countries and states of Europe (like Germany, Italy, the Nederlands, Finland and Ireland,...). More information about Euro can be found in the Commission of the European Union.

Catalonia is inside European Union, and it has the benefits (and problems) of the European Union, but as Catalonia is not a State, so it can NOT decide in the Europe Governement. For now, the Europe Governement is a political administration where only the 15th European States can decide. Even so the laws of European Union are applied to Catalonia (except in Andorra, that is a State and does not belong to European Union).

The most known city is Barcelona, because it has a lot of Gaudi architecture (the best representative of "Art Nouveau") and in 1992 it organized the Olympic Games.
